Next in our free SEO tools series is Screaming Frog, which is a multi-function programme that allows you to implement your keyword strategy in a more efficient and effective way.

In this edition of our free SEO tools series, we look at Screaming Frog, and how this application can help optimise the SEO efficiency of your website.

Whereas the previous articles in our series have addressed how to identify the optimal keywords to target, Screaming Frog is a multi-function programme that allows you to implement your keyword strategy in a more efficient and effective way.

Access to the full version requires a yearly subscription. Luckily for small cultural organisations with limited budgets, a free version is available with some handy features.

What does Screaming Frog do?

In essence, Screaming Frog is a website bulk editing tool. It congregates different parts of your website into one accessible interface, so you can compare and alter pages, titles, URLs and meta data. Here are some features of the free version:

  • Find and fix broken URLs and hyperlinks.
  • Analyse page titles and meta data.
  • Discover duplicate pages.
  • Generate XML website maps (which helps Google spiders find content on your site and, as a result, makes sure your relevant content ranks).

For a full list of the programme’s functions consult the Screaming Frog website here.

How useful can this tool be for me?

The benefit of Screaming Frog is that it optimises the time spent developing and editing your website. For small but busy organisations that wish to organise their time more efficiently, this tool can help you pull back for a wide view of your website and make decisions about how to optimise your content efficiently.

The interface also leads to an easier application of SEO keywords. If you’ve targeted certain keywords, it allows you to easily see how these are distributed across your website, without needing to trawl through each individual page.
